Welcome to the launch of my new and improved blog and my first blog post! My name is Bret Friedrich and I am currently a Cybersecurity and Information Assurance student at Western Governors University. I wanted to start by telling you why I created this blog, what you will be seeing more of in my posts, and my overall experience of revamping my online presence.
Why I started my blog
Discipline. Having to sit down once a day or once week (or at whatever frequency) and write is an important skill. It forces you to learn the difficult lesson that some of the best things in life happen as a result of delayed gratification.
Introspection. Sitting down to write about a subject makes you realize what was important.
Voice. Everyone has something to say, even if we do not think of ourselves as writers or speakers. Blogs can gives you a place, free from censorship and criticism, to say what’s on your mind and find other like minded people to connect with.
What you will be seeing more of in my posts
School, fun side projects and all things technology will be the main topic of my blogs. Also expect to see the occasional mixture of lifestyle and personal posts. Writing has never been a strong suite of mine and I will tell you, I am no expert(quite the opposite actually) on any of this. I may be a “perfectionist” but I
am nowhere near perfect. This will be a lot of trial and error so please bear with me on any grammar/spelling mistakes and please feel free to always share your advice and communicate with me
along the way!
This is not my first attempt at blogging, several times over the years I have gone down this road only to abandon the project after a few short introductory posts. Several friends have asked, “Why don’t you start a blog?”, recently and the wheels began turning once again in my head. After being inspired to start my blog, I wanted to act fast while the motivation and creative juices were still flowing strong.
Not only did I want to start a blog, but after having my business for a year and a half now, I was ready to totally revamp my brand and online presence with a new website as well. This is not a fast task! Creating a website and/or blog is work and if you’re looking to fight your way through it on your own be prepared for many frustrated nights.
There will be changes down the line as I tweak and iterate but today I am releasing phase 1 of this revamp here with this blog. Thank you and enjoy!
